SUMMONING JUTSU HISTORY.
The Summoning Jutsu allows a ninja to call forth creatures (typically animals) to aid them in battle. To perform it, a ninja must sign a contract with the species they wish to summon. This contract is written in blood and usually takes the form of a scroll, and each person who signs it gains access to that species’ creatures.
The concept of summoning jutsu was introduced quite early in the series, and it remained a staple of any shinobi's fighting style until near the end of the story. Summoning jutsu is surprisingly simple to use even in the heat of battle, and it's a great way for any ninja to get the advantage in numbers and have a creature watch their back. There's much more to know about how the summoning jutsu is used and how certain Naruto characters made the most of it while fighting their many battles.
Once the contract is signed, the user can summon creatures by channeling chakra and pressing their blood-marked hand to the ground or another surface, forming a seal.
The summoning jutsu upped its game in the next major story arc, when Naruto Uzumaki met his best mentor of all, Jiraiya the toad sage.
Jiraiya did Naruto a favor by undoing the seal on the boy's chest to release Kurama's chakra, and that chakra was soon put to good use. Jiraiya challenged Naruto to perform toad summons after Naruto made the contract, and at first, Naruto struggled. Then, facing imminent doom, Naruto channeled Kurama's vast chakra to summon the mightiest toad of them all, the titanic Gamabunta.
That progress symbolized Naruto's creative mind and his willingness to embrace new techniques, not to mention Naruto's ever-growing control and acceptance of Kurama's vast power.
